I had an encounter with a skunk.  No, I didn't get to be the recipient of his perfume.  Let me explain.   I live in southern Alberta and in 2015-16 we had an extremely mild winter.  I do not go in my back yard during the winter so I really had no idea that a skunk had taken up sleeping under a shed in the yard.  No snow, no tracks.  I had no idea.  The rare occasion when I went into the back yard I could smell a very faint skunk smell but really didn't think much about it.  I live a block from the prairie so smelling a skunk was really not unusual.  

This spring as I was starting to prepare my yard and get ready for an imminent addition to the house, a 3 season room I am very excited about, I noticed that the skunk smell was much stronger.  Not, eyes tearing and stinging strong, just...stronger.  And having been raised on a farm not even that offensive.  I started watching the only available possible area the skunk could get underneath the shed and sure enough noticed that the skunk had done some digging to get underneath.  I blocked the hole as bet I could.  However, it was all moved the next day. I got the distinct impression that the skunk did not want to harm anyone.  He was just looking for a safe, quiet place to rest during the day.  
 
I decided to use two tools in my tool belt to have a chat with the skunk.  I used the biofeedback system I have to send a message to the skunk.  I also used the animal communication to let the animal know that it was not going to be safe for him in my yard.  Repeatedly.  A lot.  I let him know that there was no way he was going to be able to get any rest during the day as there was going to be a human working and making noise near his preferred sleeping spot.  He didn't understand "noisy" so I went out the next day with a hammer and banged on the shed walls and explained that THIS was noisy.  I immediately got a message that I no longer needed to do that because he had already left.  But has he left for good? I wondered.  

That evening when I sat down to do my automatic writing practice this is the message I received.....  "Yes he left the other day because of your warning. He appreciates that you took the time to tell him. He will put in a good word about you to the other animals he encounters. He is surprised you didn't want to harm him. That is his experience with humans so far until you. He wishes to let you know that your kindness is greatly appreciated. You have earned his respect. He also appreciates you taking the time to explain what noise meant. He didn't realize there was a way to describe it. He noticed that you were on your land today and realizes he would never get any rest there. (I was cutting the grass and using the trimmer) He thanks you." And then I got the cutest skunk grin lol.
